Very nice capture! I love the depth of field . . . . and "murse" is a new one for me.

This is an incredible portrait. I LOVE this picture. Out of curiosity, this is my first real out-and-about in NYC: are you asking people before you take pics like this, or are you just snapping pics as you see them?

I'm interested in lingual x's question, too. When I take candid photos, people tend to know that I'm pointing the camera at them and they turn away or pose. Your work is so real and the subjects so unaware . . . Can you elaborate more on your process?

Hey all--thanks for your kind comments.

In answer to the question, first the technical issue: well, I have a giant 70-300mm image stabilizing zoom lens, so I can shoot from pretty far without people seeing me. That's what allows me to get fairly candid shots.

I don't ask them if I can take their picture, but it is legal. I've hunted around the internet enough to confirm to my satisfaction that (a) I'm allowed to take these photos and (b) I'm allowed to post them on the internet.

If someone ever saw these photos and asked me to take them down, I'd do so immediately. Also, I don't have qualms about putting these kinds of candids up, but I wouldn't put up a photo of someone doing something distasteful or embarrassing.
